New Mexico Ranks #1 in Dependency on Federal Spending

2 National Labs, 4 Military Bases, Federal Ownership of 25% of the State's land along with Federal poverty programs, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security payments, Agricultural subsidies, Forest Service management and the like keep New Mexico at the top of the list of states getting Federal money.

While this revenue has been welcome and at one time served as an economic buffer for the Land of Enchantment, its continuance can no longer be counted upon.  Federal budget cuts coupled with  the lack of seniority and key committee assignments of our current Senators and Congressmen has made New Mexico more vulnerable to the D.C. budget ax than at any time since World War II.
